History

The history of Animal Face

Animal Face is a Seed Junky Genetics cross of Face Off OG and Animal Mints that was in Washington state lab records by Nov 2018, won first place for indoor flower at the 2022 Emerald Cup in Fig Farms’ hands, and was the top-selling strain on the East Coast in 2025.1,2,3,4

Why it spread

Competition first. Fig Farms’ Animal Face won first place for indoor flower at the 2022 Emerald Cup, a win SeedFinder says earned the strain even more fame, and a year later its sister phenotype, Blue Face, became the first indoor cultivar to win the competition’s Best in Show.3,9,14

Then the breeder’s reach. Seed Junky also bred Wedding Cake, Leafly’s 2019 Strain of the Year, and Leaf Magazine reports that its main revenue comes from selling flower in California and licensing its genetics and know-how to partners in New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois, Arizona and New Mexico, as well as abroad.7,15 Animal Face is sold under several brands, from Rythm in Illinois to Phat Panda in Washington and Carmel in Canada.12,16,17

The disputed parts of the story

  • Breeder: Seed Junky Genetics in every database we checked; a Rythm product page on Weedmaps says it was originally bred by the Washington brand From the Soil farms (see genetics).1,14,18
  • Indica or sativa: from about 80% sativa in ILGM’s guide to a “classic, top-shelf indica experience” in Leaf Magazine’s review.19,20
  • Animal Mints’ parents: Animal Cookies × SinMint Cookies per Leafly and SeedFinder’s family tree; SeedFinder’s description also mentions accounts that give other parents.14,21,22
  • Date: none of the sources we opened gives the year of the cross; the earliest dated evidence we have is the lab record in the timeline above.2
